Every spring and summer, we throw out our warm clothes and bring out our light summer wear. And although it’s fun pull out our summer wardrobe, many people forget the most important thing they should wear every single day- sunscreen!
Back in 2014, several news agencies ran a story of a portrait artist, Thomas Leveritt, who did a study of the effects of going without sunscreen by taking photos with an ultraviolet camera which revealed the damage of the sun on someone’s skin that wasn’t readily visible to naked eye. The photos and videos were enlightening, and most of us would likely not want to see how our skin looks. Watch one of Leveritt’s videos above.
It gave a visual to what several people have been saying for a long time, that we should be wearing sunscreen and taking care of our skin. The question then becomes what type of sunscreen should we use and what types of sunscreens work best. The rule of thumb that most dermatologists suggest when it comes to SPF levels is that it should be at least 30 SPF applied 30 minutes before exposure and reapplied every 2 hours. Here are a few options to consider for the best protection.
Natural Sunscreen
There are a ton of natural sunscreens out there. But one of the best that’s recommended is the Mad Hippie Facial Spf which blocks both UVA and UVB rays. It also contains red raspberry seed, avocado, and carrot seed oil to help hydrate your skin and prevent premature aging.
Best for Daily Protection
Olay Regenerist makes a great micro-sculpting cream that works to fight dehydration, fine lines, and other signs of aging. It uses vitamin B3 and amino-peptides while being oil-free to protect and care for your skin.
Best for the Beach or Pool
Coppertone’s Clearly Sheer sunscreen is oil-free, broad-spectrum, and water resistant. It goes on clear and doesn’t feel sticky. It also comes in a spray, making it easy to apply.
Make it a rule this summer to protect your skin by wearing sunscreen every day.
